What's Your Vibe?

For the last few weeks Spirit has been bringing up the concept of “vibration” seemingly every where I looked! When I asked if that was the topic for today’s newsletter, I got a resounding “Yes!” so here we go…

Firstly, what is vibration? We have heard a lot in recent years about “being at a high

vibration” to live a good and happy life; to attract and manifest your dreams. But what does that mean? And how do you “raise your vibration’? Let’s start with energy. Scientists now confirm that everything in the universe is made up of energy – you, me, the trees in your yard, the air you breathe, the chair you are sitting on. It is not only the physical things in our world that are made of energy. Our thoughts, feelings and actions are also made of energy.


And energy moves; it vibrates. It vibrates so quickly that we cannot see it with the naked eye but we can feel it in our environment and in others. As our thoughts and feelings move out from us, as they vibrate, they create change in our environment just as a pebble does when dropped into water – it creates a ripple effect. Have you ever run across someone who gives you a “bad vibe”? You have felt that person’s energy and you have labelled it as “bad” because it did not align with your own vibration. Similarly, do you know people who can just “light up a room”? When they enter your space, you find yourself smiling just because you suddenly feel good – you are feeling their positive vibe.

Likewise, as that ripple we send out comes back to us as a wave, so does the energy of our thoughts. So, it makes sense to send out positive thoughts so what we receive back is positive! When we change the way we think, we change our energy and our vibration, and the Universe responds back in like fashion. It makes sense then, when we hear “change your thoughts, change your life.”

We can transform energy when we decide to raise our vibration. The Universe responds to that vibration by matching it in our experiences in life through the Law of Attraction. The energy of our Universe is unlimited so we have unlimited possibilities available to us but we set limits upon ourselves. How many times have you censored a dream of yours by thinking “That’s impossible” or “I don’t deserve that” or “Not gonna happen”? The Universe responds to the vibration of those thoughts and matches them to the experiences we have and our dreams pass us by. This is what happens when we are stuck in a low vibration.

So why do we want to raise our vibration? Simply put, because most of us want to live in happiness and realize our dreams. If we raise our vibration, we will attract higher vibrational experiences. What will those look like you ask? Let’s look at what most masters referring to vibrational energy refer to in their discussions – the “Map of ConsciousnessÒ” created by Sir David R. Hawkins in 1995. Hawkins was a psychiatrist, physician, researcher, and spiritual teacher who after two decades of research, mapped out energetic vibration matched to emotional states and levels of consciousness. He also included the perception of life and of God at each of the levels as well as the process the person is going through at each level. Other authors have included additional emotions at some of the levels as follow (Source: Sanctuary Wellness):

All of us have experienced most of these emotions at some point in our lives. We are constantly moving between levels based on day to day circumstances. Our goal as Children of the Divine, is to work back towards where we have come from, Pure Consciousness when we again know that we are part of Source, that we are one. Our birthright is to live a joyful, enlightened life. When we take away the restrictions, we place upon ourselves when we are in lower vibrational states, when we learn the life lessons brought to us by those states, we can achieve anything. Where do you spend the majority of your time? Do you recognize when you rise to a higher level or fall to a lower one? How does your energy feel with the different emotions? What is your vibe today?

How do we free ourselves from the “negative states”? How do we raise our vibration? We can

start with our thoughts. If you remember, our thoughts create our feelings which result in actions. All of these put out an energetic vibration which the Universe responds to. So, the place to start is with addressing negative thoughts to create a better reality for ourselves. Kristen Butler in her book the 3 Minute Positivity Journal, reminds us that negative emotions are “flashing signs that something needs to change.” They are triggers illuminating our life lessons. Negative experiences can be seen as “gifts for growth versus pain without purpose.” They should move us forward towards more positive thoughts, feelings, and actions. We should not be wallowing in a negative state. As Joyce Meyer so eloquently put it, “Being negative only makes the journey more difficult. You may be given a cactus but you don’t have to sit on it.” Expanding on Butler’s recommendations to release negativity we must:

  1. Become aware of the negativity. From the perspective of the quiet observer just notice the negative thoughts or emotions for what they are. Do not dissect them or analyze them or judge them. Do not give them more energy by dwelling on them or speaking about them.

  2. Accept that negativity is within you without trying to change it. From a neutral space just accept that it is there. Do not judge yourself.

  3. Do not fight the negativity. When we take the energy away from the fight, we are able to redefine, release or replace the negativity.

  4. Evolve from the negativity and replace it with positivity – positive thoughts, feelings, or actions. Change your perspective and reframe the situation, feel from a positive perspective. Discover the blessings and lessons in the situation.

Challenge #1 for you: Can you make a promise to yourself to try tracking any negative thoughts or emotions you have over the next 24 hours? Can you work through these 4 steps and then journal your positive outcomes? Did you feel your energy change? Did you raise your vibration to a new level? One of the Mindvalley experts and Spiritual teacher, Melanie Beckler recommend additional ways to address negativity in your life so that you can stay in a state of higher vibration.

  • Avoid speaking of problems, illnesses, diseases, worries. The more energy you give them, the more they persist.

  • Meditate to practice dissociating yourself from negative thoughts and emotions. Meditation allows you to access the higher vibrational emotions of love, compassion, joy, peace, and unity.

  • Avoid gossiping as it usually involves criticizing and judging others.

  • Pay attention to what you are consuming. Don’t fall asleep in front of a television that is on. When you are asleep your subconscious is easily accessed by lower vibration outside influences such as violent shows or negative media on television. Replace things that “pull you down” with things that “lift you up” such as inspiring music, books, or creating something.

  • Journal gratitude daily. Your subconscious mind does not differentiate between reality and the imagination so thinking/remembering positive experiences has the same effect as living the actual experience. It raises your vibration. Journalling allows you to relive your favourite positive experiences.

  • Visualize the best scenario not the worst. Be solution orientated not problem orientated. I recall a counsellor once telling me that every situation has three possible outcomes – it can get better, stay the same, or get worse. Her question was, “Why do we almost always default to anticipating the worst outcome when it is only one third of the potential outcomes. Why do we not anticipate the majority two thirds which are more positive?” When I remember this example, it helps me to reframe towards the positive possible outcome versus the negative.

  • Let go of past limiting beliefs, trauma, challenges, and judgements to move forward. Forgive others AND yourself. Practicing the Hawaiian forgiveness and self healing technique of Ho’oponopono is an effective way to do this.

  • Commit to joy and having fun. Do what you love, what lights you up. Laugh! Smile! These two actions also decrease stress hormones and increase immunity.

  • Exercise. Exercise physically removes you from a problem. It also increases endorphins to help you feel happier.

  • Replace processed foods or food full of toxins and chemicals with organic whole foods, fresh organic produce especially from your own garden.

  • Replace chemical skin care and cleaning products with natural products.

  • Spend time in nature. Approaching nature with love, gratitude, and reverence recharges your energy field.

Challenge #2: Start today to integrate some of these practices into your daily life. How many have you implemented by the end of the day? By the end of the week?


Kyle Gray in his book Raise Your Vibration describes three essential habits to add to your lifestyle when working towards raising your vibration. Firstly, he recommends engaging in a

daily spiritual practice. This may include activities such as prayer, gratitude, blessing your food, checking angel cards for inspiration or guidance, affirmations, meditation, breath work, mantras, yoga, a specific diet, self care, and cultivating only positive thoughts and interactions with others. What is your spiritual practice? Do you engage in it daily?


Next, he discusses important energies to include in a high vibe life – gratitude, devotion, and kindness. As Neale Donald Walsh says, “The struggle ends when gratitude begins.” Practicing gratitude for the wonderful things in your life will bring in more things to be grateful for. Gray describes devotion as “unconditional love and respect, worship, loyalty.” There is total faith in the object of devotion (example: God, Source, a parent, family) and no expectations/conditions set in the relationship. Demonstrating kindness can shift our mood and even improve health. Perform acts of kindness and service whenever you can. How often do you practice gratitude? Who or what are you devoted to? When did you last perform an act of kindness and what was it?

Lastly, Gray talks about “tuning in” to maintain a high vibration. He explains that when we are

experiencing lower vibrational emotions such as stress or overwhelm, we feel a separation from our higher power. We “tune in” to remove that separation. When we “tune in” we set the intention to remove that separation, that space, between us and our higher power/Source/God/the Creator/the Universe in the past, present, and future. When we “tune in” we go within to connect with our higher self/intuition/expression of the soul. At the same time, we are remembering our connection with Source because we are one. We are all connected. So, breathe, relax, and ask your Angels and Guides to assist you to go within and to help raise your vibration. Challenge #3: Practice tuning in to your higher self. Your vibration is an amazing, powerful part of you and you can manipulate it. By working with your energetic vibration, you can achieve amazing things. You can improve any aspect of your life – health, finances, relationships, etc. As many who work with the Law of Attraction tell us, you can attract the life of your dreams through raising your vibration. Others believe that that life already exists in one of an infinite number of alternate universes that you can access through raising your vibration. At any rate, working with your energy can bring about miraculous changes in your life. And as you grow and change, the Universe may remove people or experiences from your life because their energy does not support the vibe you are creating. This is not something to worry about. Everyone has their own timeline and life path where there are opportunities to raise their vibration. If relationships are changing it is a sign that you are evolving and new relationships will come your way. Perhaps old relationships will even reappear as their vibration changes as well.

As we become more aware of our vibration and make a conscious effort to raise it, the

Universe will recognize your effort and match it in the life that opens up for you. Because we are all connected, we are one, your vibration will be “contagious” and will assist others to raise theirs. Globally, as we all raise our vibration, we create a better world for all.
