"Things That Go Bump In the Night"

Spirit has brought me an analogy that I am sure most of you can relate to. It originated when I

had the privilege of going on a facilitated Quantum Consciousness (QC) journey last week. During the experience, I received much wisdom and clarity not only about my path forward on my spiritual journey, but also about the current state of the world and its impact on individuals. The analogy was presented referencing “things that go bump in the night.”

Childhood Bumps In The Night

Did you ever have a time as a child when you had a fear of “things that go bump in the night?” Do you have any memories of those moments when your mother or father has said goodnight, the lights are turned off, your door is closed, and you are left alone staring into the darkness? As you look around the room your eyes open wider trying to see the familiar objects that you know are there, all that you see are what feel like menacing shadows. As fear creeps in, your heart beats faster as you close your eyes to ignore the shadows reasoning with yourself that “they are nothing.” You might have pulled your covers up to your chin or perhaps even over your head to feel safe and protected. I know I had an unspoken rule that as long as I did not extend and hand or a foot beyond the edge of my mattress, I would be safe. Nothing lurking under my bed could grab me. Sometimes when I remembered, I would also ask my Guardian Angels to keep me safe. Then curled up in a ball away from the edge of the bed, covers up past my ears, I would drift off to sleep. Did you ever have similar nighttime experiences?

I was reminded of those childhood memories when the facilitator of my QC journey posed a question to Spirit for me. I wanted to know more about the jarring of my bed that I sometimes experience as I prepare to fall asleep at night. It feels as if someone has bumped into the bed, but when I look over to where my husband should be, he is sound asleep and no one else I can see is on the room. The response I got to the question about those experiences was “things that go bump in the night.” Now, I know that that expression often refers to something we might be afraid of. In fact, when “googling” it the more detailed definition was “the expression is commonly used to describe frightening sounds or events that occur during the night, typically when it is dark and quiet. It evokes a sense of mystery and fear, often linked to the imagination running wild in the absence of light.” In fact, one of the earliest uses was in a British prayer asking for protection from supernatural entities that might disturb one’s sleep at night. Separation vs Oneness

I found it interesting that my experiences of the bed movements made me more curious than afraid but then I realized they brought me to this moment where I was getting a deeper explanation in the form of an analogy. By definition, things that “go bump in the night,” evoke a fear response. Most obviously this is a fear of the darkness and what might be lurking under its cover. The analogy I was given was that many people around the globe are in darkness that creates fear. The darkness is the “feeling of separation” as opposed to the knowing that we are one. We are one means that we are all connected to each other, to all the creatures on the planet and beyond, to the earth herself, and to the beings of light and Source itself. It was further explained to me that the darkness has created fear in humanity. It is a fear of many things but most accurately fear of the unknown.

So, let’s unpack this a little more... When you were a child in that scary darkness whether you were the only one in the room or whether you were lying next to a sleeping sibling, you likely felt alone.  So too is much of humanity living in “separateness,” living without connection to Spirit and one another, living alone. I am not referring to living in a physical space where there is no physical contact with someone else. I am referring to the lack of energetic/spiritual connection to other people, animals, the planet, etc. Spirit referred to this connection as “to all that is.”  This living alone is living in darkness.

Fear of the Unknown

Now back to being in that dark bedroom as a child. Being alone, no one else was there to help you face the darkness, to protect you, and you were afraid. You were afraid of what that darkness might be hiding. You were afraid of the unknown and unfortunately due to our social conditioning about the unknown, you were afraid of it because the unknown was believed to hold something that would harm you. You did not feel safe. The same concept applies to humanity. When we live disconnected, in the darkness we feel fear. The lack of connection that has brought darkness to a large part of our planet’s collective consciousness has created widespread fear. There is fear of the unknown in that darkness, of “things that go bump in the night.” The unknown is comprised of unstable global affairs –especially political and economic environments that might harm us. There is widespread fear about what the future might hold in terms of our current way of living and even down to basic safety for our lives. That fear is expressed in many of the emotions and behaviours we are currently seeing on the world stage – anger, frustration, threats, bullying, conflict, and war.

Lighting Up the Darkness

As I continued my QC journey, I received more clarity about the analogy. The next step was to look at how do we deal with the “things that go bump in the night?”  Remember back to that childhood experience. How did you deal with that scenario? Did you carry on with your

head under the covers fearfully falling into a fitful sleep waiting for the light of morning? You may have felt safe trying to hide from the darkness but the next day the pattern repeated itself. Were you brave enough to get out of bed and pad into the darkness, braving the monsters that might be lurking under your bed, to turn on the light and then fall asleep feeling safe in its glow? You felt safe seeing all the familiar things in your room that you love. Perhaps a sibling even woke and climbed into bed with you, secure in the safe environment you had created. Or did you call out for you mother or father who came in to allay your fears. They may have turned the lights on and perhaps even shone a flashlight under your bed gently reassuring you “there is nothing there to be afraid of.” Then turning off the lights, they sat with you, cuddling you in their arms or at the very least holding your hand until you felt safe enough to fall asleep knowing that they were there for you.

On a global level, some will choose to remain in the darkness, just as the child who repeatedly hides under the covers. They continue to experience the emotions and behaviours of fear as they struggle with the challenges in their lives waiting for “a better day” to arrive.

Others are brave enough to say “no” to the darkness. They choose to take action, looking for a different perspective on what is happening around them, looking to learn and taking responsibility for their own safety and growth. By “turning their own light on” through choosing love instead of fear they become a beacon for others to follow and connect with. Still others will find the strength to reach out for help, knowing that “there is strength in numbers.” The help they receive may be from their spiritual team, other people, or other creatures on the planet. The connection they make will help them “see the light” and that there is nothing to fear. The connection helps them learn to shine their own light in the darkness. Where are you at o your journey? How are you responding to the darkness?

So, when we look at the collective consciousness of humanity, we see that currently we seem to be in a time of great darkness. But how we experience that darkness depends on how we deal with “things that go bump in the night.” Some will be waiting to be saved from the fear and the darkness not seeing they have their own light to shine a path to freedom through the darkness. Others are at the point on their journey where they are part of the oneness. They feel connected to others and to Source and are learning to shine their light brighter as a beacon for others. Many are currently starting to see and feel their own light and a connection to others. The world chaos/darkness is waking them up to the knowing that we have much in common as inhabitants of this planet and are uniting/connecting in peaceful ways to stand against the darkness. Those who shine their light on the darkness see that there is only light. Just as the mother who shines the light into the darkness under the bed and reassures the child “there is nothing there,” all the child sees is an illuminated space under the bed.

The Light is Within You

So “things that go bump in the night” is a story to tell us that we do not need to be afraid. In fact, those things help us find our strength, our light, and our connection. We do not need to live in darkness. We only have to look inward, away from the external darkness, to find the beautiful light of love and hope that we have within. For those who are struggling to find that light, hold out your hand for assistance. When each one of us grows in the light, there is a ripple effect far and wide helping so many more. As we live in the connected oneness in the light, the fear of the unknown disappears. We remember our power as creators of our reality, and we can choose our future versus becoming victim to what the emotions of fear create.

Lastly, all I can honestly say is one of the repeated messages I received on my QC journey,

was “We are light. We are one.”  My heartfelt wish for you is to see your own light and allow it to shine brighter and brighter. Recapture the innocence of the child who believes wholeheartedly that the light makes the monsters of the dark disappear. Just like that child BELIEVE in your beautiful light as a part of Source, as a child of the Divine. Reconnect with your inner light/your higher self AND with other souls. As a collective we are moving out of fear and uncertainty to live a certain future of joy. It is time to leave the darkness behind. Let’s join together and be the light.

Sending you love and light,

Marilyn
